Professional Biography
INTRODUCING Liz Parsons, New Zealand's Masters World Silver Medalist and Multi-national award winner, to our instructor crew at Salsa Tumbao 2025. With her philosophy that Dance is for Everyone, and her eagerness to learn from some of the top in the scene overseas, Liz created Sweet Azucar! Latin Dance in West Auckland in 2012.
What drives you to dance?
"Dance chose me. My mum always said it was a God-given talent, and a slap in His face not to use it. Dance is my SoulFood. My heart aches if I'm not dancing. On stage, I love telling a story! And I love the audience reacting to it. If a piece of music doesn't give me goosebumps, I'm not choreographing to it."
In her 16 years in the Latin Dance industry, Liz has been instrumental in flying in and touring World Class International teachers around New Zealand, so that all dancers can have the chance to improve and get the very latest and best teaching. Liz works closely with her mentor in the USA Serena Cuevas, travelling there most years to further her knowledge and skills.
With her reputation of safe technique, clear communication, authenticity and a whole lot of laughter, Liz is bringing her fun style and knowledge back to Salsa Tumbao. As well as performing, Liz will be teaching Street Style Cha Cha Cha assisted by Des. This is Street Style, NOT BALLROOM, so it's more relaxed in the frame and kinder on the body. SWEET AZ!
